英語を勉強するときは好きなことでやろう
英語の勉強は憎き敵だ．
僕も大変に苦労した．
若かった僕は，フィリピンの語学学校のホテルに缶詰になり，泣きながら帯状疱疹になりながら勉強をしたものだ．
が，それは効果が薄かった様に思う．
なぜなら，嫌い故に全然捗らないからだ．そうであればいっそ英語の勉強やその題材が好きになる様に工夫してみればどうであろうか？
ここでは，（僕が野球が好きなので）野球というテーマを存分に使いながら英語の勉強法を雑記の様に書こうと思う．
Japan Timesという英字新聞がある（確か内容は読売新聞）．
もちろんWebページも存在し，いろいろな記事が英語で読める．
中でも野球の記事はそれなりのボリュームがあり内容もしっかりしているのでリーディングと語彙の習得にはもってこいである．例えば，昨日はCSの巨人対ヤクルト戦で菅野がコンディション不良の中で一世一代の神ピッチングを見せてくれた．その勇姿は以下の記事にまとめられている．
例えばこんなことが書いてある：
For the Swallows, it’s on to next year. The team finished last in the league — 44 games out of first place — in 2017 only to soar into second place this season.
“We turned things around,” Balentien said. “We had a great season. We have a great group of guys. Everybody stepped up and did their job.”

要するにヤクルトは去年は散々なシーズンを送ったが，今年はかなりよく頑張ったということがバレンティンの言葉とともに語られている．語彙自体も平易で，読みやすいボリュームなので，受験勉強の初歩や久しぶりに英語を勉強する方にはJapan Timesはおすすめである．
よくよく考えたら学部生時代に読まされたな...そういえば...
