Black MirrorのHang the DJという回を観た．
Black Mirrorには珍しくハッピーエンドな物語だ．
ハッピーエンドにびっくりしてしまったのは僕だけではないようだ．
It’s a whopper of an ending that’s in lock step with Black Mirror’s specific kind of madness, but it also provides the audience with something not super common in the world of this show: a happy ending.
その一方で，Black Mirrorとしての王道は外していない．
Like all episodes of Black Mirror, the end of “Hang the DJ” offers up a closing twist that forces the audience to rethink everything they’ve seen so far.
物語はBlack Mirrorの要素として機能している．
まだ観ていない人のために簡単なあらすじ
“Hang the DJ” is basically Black Mirror’s take on Tinder, as it takes place in a totalitarian-like reality in which couples are paired by The System, and are told how long their relationship will last at the outset.
Totalitarian-like realityと出てきて，「全体主義的の？」と思う人もいるだろうけど，これに深い意味はないので安心してください．ただシステムが人間の恋愛を牛耳る世界観を1984やサイコパスみたいの世界みたいに喩えているだけだ．
つまりこのエピソードは，「システム」と言われるアルゴリズムが人間の恋愛を牛耳っている世界観を描いている．が，これは物語の１部でしかない．むしろ大切なのはここではない．大切なものはシステムの中のシミレーション人間がシステムに反抗するのに現実世界に生きる人間がシステム（＝デーティングアプリ：Tinderみたいなもの）に意思決定を委ねているところだろう．
Simulated Frank and Amy make the choice to fight the System, but real-world Frank and Amy end up embracing it. The chorus of the Smith’s “Panic” plays in the background of the bar where they meet, and its repeated exhortation to “hang the DJ” is a celebration of fighting the power and doing it for yourself. But in real life, Amy and Frank looked down at their phones and trusted an algorithm that they’re a 99.8 percent match.
観てない人は何を言っているのか全く意味不明だと思うので，ぜひ観てください．
Black Mirrorの新境地かも？
I tend to think Black Mirror is most interesting and most effective when it stretches itself to tell stories about technology as a potential good, rather than taking the easy route of “… and then everything was a monstrous nightmare.
海外メディアのレビューを見ているとこのエピソードはかなりの高評価なようです．なんでも，ブラックミラーはいつもテクノロジーが発達したことによる悪夢を描いているのに，今回はほんわか系だからだそうな...
個人的にはテクノロジーが描くディストピアの方が面白いし，知的好奇心をくすぐりますが...例えばNetflixでもSeason１が見れるのでこのエピソードとかはかなりおすすめです．

物語の核として「五年」という時間がいきなり僕たち観衆の前に提示されます．見ていて「これはなぜ五年なんだろう？何か特別な意味があるのか？」と思ったわけですが，当然アメリカのメディアライターも同じような疑問を抱いたようです．そこで，そのライターはなんとこのドラマの監督に直接質問をして五年の設定の理由を聞いたようです．
質問：
How did you decide on “5 years” as being the right amount of time for a possible relationship to tease our lovestruck hero with before the app started re-calculating?
どうやって五年という時間設定を決めたの？
答え：
We （製作者） figured it was long enough so you’d think that it’s not devastating news, but it’s not forever. He does react like he’s disappointed but not reassured. Five years is long enough so you might think, “Maybe we’re going to drift apart.” Because we realized it couldn’t be infinity, so he knows she’s not going to be his ultimate match. Five years seemed like you’d go, “Okay that’s a reasonable amount of time for a serious relationship, a serious bond.”
長すぎず，短すぎず物語に真正性を与えるように考えた．
やはり作り込まれた話にはそれ相応の理由があって物語の筋が決まり無駄なものがないのですね．このドラマの中で僕らが何回も聞かされるセリフが2つあります．
一つはThat is correct．
もう一つはIt happens for a reason.
本当にIt happens for a reasonでした．
